During 1980, Joean, at the
age of twenty, started her own business in Hong Kong. Later,
around 1988, her business as proven so successful that her company was
well known around Hong Kong. During 1989, she expanded to New York. In
12/1999, 'TIME OUT NEW YORK' awarded her by publishing her business,
and ranked her salon top five in New York City. Today, with twenty
plus years of experience, she had expanded to four different locations through out the New York area.
"Timeout
New York"- a magazine that is an obsessive guide to impulsive
entertainments. They enjoy doing researches on enjoyable, yet
affordable experiences. Most are astonishingly relaxing, and so
incredible, you won’t even believe how great you would feel.
Between
February 24, 2000 and March 2, 2000, ‘Timeout New York’ did their
researches on facial salons in New York City. They ranked the top
salons in New York City, and published their comments on each salon
they ranked. The article below was one of the few published. (Issue
No.231 Page 28)
Joean Skin Care - Full facial $35, approximately 90 minutes. It comes as no surprise that one of NYC's best facial deals can be found in Chinatown, where it seems that bargain-basement prices can abound on everything. Joean's tiny storefront is chock-full of high-end skin-care lines, but the real draw is behind the "facial Room" door. My own facial, though not exactly relaxing (aestheticians chattered loudly and Chinese pop music blasted), was though --- steps included extraction, a mask and an exfoliation treatment that was actually pleasant. And the lengthy facial and shoulder massage made up for the aggressive sales pitch to prepay for a special ten-facial package (a bargain -- at $250, you end up getting two free facials).
80 Lafayette was reviewed by In Style on 2007. She didn't keep a copy a the time and if anyone has a copy, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help.
Recently, on the March issue of BEST OF NEW YORK 2008 - HEALTH AND SELF another one of Joean's beauty salon was reviewed! You can check it out here:

The $35 Chinatown facial is one of the perpetual joys of Canal Street: It’s thorough, less than a third the price of its day-spa counterpart, and inflation-proof (prices haven’t risen in a decade), and if you buy ten, you’ll typically get two free.
On the downside: salons that smell like dumplings, play saccharine
music, stick you in close quarters with nine women on cell phones, and
use products from the dollar store. Not so at the Lafayette branch of Joean Beauty Center. At the back of an airy nail-and-hair salon, Joean’s four rooms may be overwhelmingly pink, but they are clean and peaceful, with seldom more than two clients per room, and Guinot products
are used. The centerpiece of the 90-minute basic facial ($35; buy five,
get one free) is a 25-minute facial massage, performed (on request) by
manager-aesthetician Michelle Luo with astounding vigor and precision.
